Hello folks, and a particularly warm welcome to everyone who recently signed up for this stupid newsletter through Fantasy General Election. It’s great to have you with us!
For the benefit of all our new joiners, I’d like to point out that I do have other things in my life outside of building stupid websites.
However, that said, you are going to see a few of them at some point over the next couple of months. Apparently I’m on a hot streak.
And on that note, it is my very great pleasure to present whichisthebestthing.com:
Which Is The Best Thing?
A couple of months ago I made this TikTok filter and, unbelievably, it’s had over 100 million views.
All sorts of (apparently) famous TikTok creators have used it; as well as NFL team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who decided that out of all the ideas out there on the internet it was the best way of announcing their number 1 draft pick 🤷🏻♂️
The idea behind the filter was very simple - you are presented with 10 things at random, and you have to rank them in order of how good you think they are.
It was a lot of fun, and people made some really silly TikToks, but it annoyed me that there wasn’t a way of bringing everyone’s answers together to make a definitive ranking.
As of this morning, I am delighted to say that we now have the technology.
We’re only a thousand or so votes in, but as it stands the internet has decided that towels, computers, clouds, and a man called Ian are the greatest things of all.
Of course, that can (and probably will) change. I can’t imagine that ‘the love of a good woman’ is going to be stuck down the bottom of the leaderboard for too much longer.
My hope is that in the days, months, and years to come, together we will establish an indisputable ranking of the greatest things of all time - and waste several hours of our lives doing it.
I would say it’s already extended my toilet breaks by a good minute or so, and that can only get longer as more things are added to the site over the next couple of days.
Please do feel free to give it a bash, and I’d love to know what you think. Suggestions for improvements, or additional things, are also very welcome.
I’ll be back in August with a stupid game about horses, but until then - thanks very much for reading!
Tom
