Hey folks,
Hope all is well! I’m back with another email update, and this one will be of particular interest to members of the business community:
Tom’s “Professional Networking Event”
For the last few years, I’ve had a big party around Christmas time.
Highlights have included this extremely realistic ice sculpture of my naked self:
Well I’m sorry to say that this year I won’t be having a party, but I will be having a “Professional Networking Event”.
And although they may appear to be very similar events, they are in fact completely different.
Just like the party, the “Professional Networking Event” will feature live music and DJs, a raffle with some incredible money-can’t-buy prizes, and an assortment of silly things to keep you entertained while we dance the night away.
However, unlike the party, the “Professional Networking Event” counts towards one of my objectives at work of being a champion of workplace culture - which makes all the difference in the world.
Delegate passes for the “Professional Networking Event” are now on sale, and it would be fantastic to see you there if you can make it.
All members of the business community are welcome. As are people who are not members of the business community. Basically, everyone can come.
While I’m planning to keep one or two surprises up my sleeve for the big night, I can confirm that the DJ line up has been announced and that a Henry VIII impersonator has been booked - and personally I think that’s enough to whet the appetite.
It’s going to be a fantastic night in support of an extremely worthwhile cause - me not getting fired.
Playing Jeremy Vine at Subbuteo
I wish I could give you a bit more context on this one, but if I’m being completely honest I can’t.
I was sat in the office last week, reading through a report, when I received a phone call asking whether I’d go on BBC Radio 2 to play Jeremy Vine at Subbuteo.
Obviously I said yes, and you can hear me dishing out an absolute thrashing on Radio 2 here (roughly the final 20 minutes).
The War On Poor Kitchen Etiquette
Lots has been happening on TikTok/Instagram since we last spoke.
I won’t go through each individual going on in minute detail, but undoubtedly the highlight has been standing up for correct dishwasher usage at work.
A few people have been asking whether there will be a part 2 in this important campaign, and I’m currently chatting to one of my favourite new TikTok creators about how we can team up to rid ourselves of this problem once and for all.
I can’t tell you much more than that at the moment, but here was how my mate Ben reacted when I revealed the plans:
Keep your eyes peeled 👀
Horse Racing Game Update
Finally for this month, you might remember that last time we spoke I mentioned a stupid game about horse racing.
Well the stupid game has turned out to be quite complicated to put together, so it’s probably not going to be ready as quickly as I’d like; but I thought I’d share a little progress update so you can see what I’m working towards:
The game is called Horses of Wonder, and it’s inspired by some of the silly multiplayer games like Gartic Phone and Really Boring Website my friends and I enjoyed playing during the pandemic.
Up to 8 players at a time take it in turns to select horses with daft names (my personal favourite so far has been ‘The Indian Suitcase’ - dunno why), and then race them against each other over the course of a fantastically exciting 8 race season.
As you can see, it’s all extremely work-in-progress. It’s been quite fiddly to put together, and I’ve had to start learning a new programming language, which has slowed me down quite a bit.
I don’t want to put a date on when it’s going to be ready by, but at some point in October I’m likely to need a few volunteers to do a test run-through or two.
If this sounds like the sort of thing you might be up for, please get in touch - it would be great to hear from you.
That’s just about it for now. Thanks again for reading, and getting involved in all of this nonsense. As ever, if you have any questions, comments or ideas you can pop me a DM on TikTok or Insta.
Cheers!
Tom
