Hello - there has been some huge news!
A mere 7 months after I published my first email newsletter update, I am excited to present the second one in all of its glory.
Naturally, some people might be alarmed by the degree of regularity with which these email updates are now being published - heaven forbid that I might get round to doing two a year 😵
However, I’m taking the opportunity of the arrival of a new tax year to take on some resolutions, with a commitment to updating this newsletter a bit more regularly being one of them.
Happily, I’m not going to subject you to everything that’s happened since August. Instead, here are a few things I’ve been up to in the last month or two, which hopefully you might enjoy.
Which Is The Best Thing? You Decide
A couple of years ago, and with the help of my flatmate Jacob, I made a website called WhichIsTheBestThing.com, which asked users to help us rank all of the things in the world, ever.
It was quite successful, with more than a million votes cast, but also cost more to run than I had money to spend on frivolous nonsense and so, sadly, I had to shut it down.
However, a couple of weeks ago I had the idea of doing it as a TikTok filter and - unbelievably - it’s since been used in 17,000 TikToks, amassing 16 million views, which is frankly ridiculous.
If you’d like to have a go at it yourself, you can find it here. You can also see my attempt to justify why Taylor Swift is less important than concrete here.
Gregg Wallace Abducted
A couple of weeks ago my good friend Chris Sawyer left his job producing the Radio 1 Breakfast Show for a new and exciting adventure.
Before he left, and without giving his colleagues any warning at all, he stole the Breakfast Show’s entire collection of Gregg Wallace sound effects - much to their annoyance, and everyone else’s enjoyment.
I was fortunate enough to be asked to play an extremely minor role in the abduction, and while I can’t take any credit for this marvellous episode in the history of our national broadcaster, I thought you might enjoy seeing it come to life here.
Horses Of Wonder Is Imminent!
I often find that the best way of making sure that things get done is to announce that they’re going to happen in an extremely public way.
That’s why I’m excited to reveal that I am working on an online, multiplayer horse racing game called Horses Of Wonder.
Competing against your friends, you purchase horses with comically daft names (last time I tested it, I won a mighty victory with my noble steed The Bishop’s Toast Rack) and race them against one another to become champion of the virtual horse racing world.
It’s still a little way off being ready to go at the moment, but keep your eyes peeled for future email newsletter updates.
Mild Slice News
In October last year, I went viral for sending myself a slice of cheese in the post.
The video I made quickly became filler content on virtually every local radio station in the country, and I was even interviewed on The Jeremy Vine Show on BBC Radio 2.
Of course, all of that was quite some time ago now; but the reason I’m telling you this is because, in the last few days, a newsletter dedicated to plastic cheese has emerged.
I wonder what it could possibly mean? 👀
Back next month with more nonsense!
Thanks for reading,
Tom
